Club Encounters, situated next to a gothic-seeming mausoleum of a building surrounded by an iron gate, makes one feel as though they are entering a growing bud of dark miasma thrown off by the silent, mysterious sentinel nearby. This is the haunt of HaVoK, the locale that brings forth the seductive deviance of this weekly event.
The evening of April 24, 2005, and we were all gathered for Sinsational, HaVoK’s Fetish Ball. Making it through the throated hallway, we saw the darkness and lights glittering off vinyl and skin. Vendors and merchants occupied their own area, promising many feasts for the senses. Vivisect and DJ Hellion were already at it, posing for the photographer in their own delicious display of flash and flesh.
The bar was first on the stop, and for those who have never been the HaVoK at Club Encounters, the décor and style promulgates the indulgent air of the place. Glowing red guardians hung over the bar, harkening to distant times of technological birth and streetlight lanterns. Ever-attentive, our bartenders, Kip & Jennifer, again proved quick and capable to the task of keeping the various denizens well saturated.
The music was a nice variety, as is usual with HaVoK, going from dark electronica to straight-out intensity and industrial rock. The dance floor, sporting its two cages, was hardly vacant all night. We give many thanks to the DJs for providing us with such wonderful stimulation for our rhythms.
Many people eventually crowded the location, giving rise to more fun and adventure. We were treated to multiple displays of bondage and discipline by EROS of Houston, not the least of which was a demonstration on the main stage of dual whipping. The evening ended with a show of song and burlesque from Calla Antoinette.
