Havok @ Middle Earth ~ 04.01.06
When we dream of an evening of chaotic, twisted entertainment; when we envision the expectation of such flash-and-shine debauchery; when we seek to leave behind the dreary world outside the walls of our festivity, we have found Horror Dance II.
Middle Earth's vastness was well tested on the night of April Fool's Day, 2006 as Havok hosted Horror Dance II. The creation of reknowned and infamous local horror film auteur, Kevin DeVil, reached new heights with its second annual commencement. We were treated with the best of underground, independent horror movies, and it seemed well suited to stoke the crowd for an evening of dark revelry. Once the films ended and the post-celebration roared into full effect, the evening exploded.
Houston dark entertainment veteran Naika Whisperwish had only recently provided us with a new, expanded venue for our pleasure by releasing Havok upon Club Middle Earth. The expansive location proved suitable to the task for the crowd that emerged to celebrate the show of horror. Havok's resident DJ's immediately drove us to a frenzy with aggressive tunes to turn us from the "audience" mode of witnessing the eight movies of Horror Dance II. By the time the first of two live bands took the show, we were ravenous for more.
Shadow Reichenstein and SinDaddy continued to show us no mercy, turning up the intensity of the night to a near madness with their driving beats. The audience, having come in gleaming vinyl or elaborate costumes or some combination of both, enjoyed the space of the dance floor, or the large balcony with its stadium seating, or even the refreshment of the outdoor area. A VIP room gave a bit of seclusion to the directors, performers, and other assorted individuals, but nowhere could anyone escape the contagious energy of the evening. This was a night beyond anything we had expected. Many thanks go to all those who participated, sacrificed, and slaved in bringing this to us - most notably Naika Whisperwish, and the man himself, Kevin DeVil.
